Al-Mavineen The Helping Hands
IFDIFD, in a bid to address the poverty crisis in Baramulla, devised a social intervention program under the name of Al Mavineen in 2002. This department, on pure humanitarian grounds, supports and offers financial assistance to the economically weaker sections of Baramulla town. This department, as enshrined in the constitution of IFD, has the following objectives:
- To run social and welfare programs of IFD on a humanitarian basis.
- To provide financial assistance to students from economically weak backgrounds.
- To provide economic support to poor, ailing, destitute, needy, and widows.
- To support people during natural disasters and calamities.
- To support the girls who are unable to afford their finances for marriage.
- To support self-employment initiatives of economically weaker individuals.
An organized and structured fund-raising mechanism has been employed in which economically privileged people, those with sense and spirit of reducing social parity in the society, wholeheartedly contribute towards this noble cause. The feedback loop that IFD has developed reflects the deep association of people with IFD, who have acknowledged the efforts of IFD in this regard. Al-Mavineen also ran an annual weeklong Zakat campaign, which has been successful inasmuch as making people Baramulla town to understand and follow one of the most important pillars of Islam i.e. Zakat. This exercise has resulted in the rise of annual income and expenditure of this department (Table below). The annual audit of which is done by a certified chartered accountant and the audited statement is always made public, which is our commitment towards ensuring accountability and transparency. The details of beneficiaries are kept confidential while the dignity of recipients is upheld as well. The department has envisioned to make a gradual reduction in poverty at town Baramulla. The department is exploring all the possible means and effective mechanism to alleviate poverty in Baramulla. The brief of which has so far resulted in more than 150 self-employment initiatives and hundreds of educational scholarships. All the donations made towards Al-Mavineen are eligible for tax deductions under section 80G of Income Tax Act. This department, besides the above activities, also organizes regular blood donation camps and free medical camps. The department also undertook a hallmark campaign in district Baramulla through its successful launch of drug de-addiction campaign in 2010, which was highly appreciated by the community. In close coordination with hospital administration, the department also took care of more than 200 drug addicts, admitted in drug de-addiction centre, with sustained medication and other support.

When we look around, we witness a lot of people struggling to meet their daily needs. There are men and women, young and old, who are faced with poverty, economic difficulties, and hardships. Islam, the savior of humanity, commands its followers to come forward and help the poor and the needy. Prophet Mohammad ( صلى الله عليه وسلم) commands, “Spend in charity and do not keep count for then Allah will also keep count in giving you provision.” [Bukhari and Muslim]. Islam informs its followers that helping the poor and needy does not make them poor as the Messenger ( صلى الله عليه وسلم)of Allah said, “Charity does not in any way decrease the wealth and the servant who forgives, Allah adds to his respect; and the one who shows humility, Allah elevates him in the estimation (of the people)” [Muslim]. Allah (جل جلاله ) promises great reward to those who spend for the sake of Allah. Quran reads “The likeness of those who spend their wealth for Allah’s sake is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains and Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills, and Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.” (Qur’an, 2:261).
In the month of Ramadan, Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) would become extremely generous. He would feed the poor, help the needy and donate as much as possible. To be faithful to his message, it is important for Muslims to donate generously so that widows, orphans, the elderly, and the vulnerable can be helped. The global Coronavirus pandemic has increased the number of needy people, and therefore there is an increasing need to donate the maximum.
Our Appeal
Shoba Al-Mavineen of Idarah Falahudarain (IFD) has been working to address the crisis unfolded by the poverty at Baramulla. It supports the economically disadvantaged sections of the society on the humanitarian grounds irrespective of caste, creed colour or religion. It takes care of the needs of economically weak students, ailing poor and the people hit by the disasters. In the last financial year, Al Mavineen has spent Rs. 17,759,463 supporting more than 650 financially unsound families.
The salient features that mark our financial assistance program include the transparent mechanism and dual accountability system. We have internal annual audit as well as chartered accountant based accounts audit system. We value the dignity of poor and ensure that their identity is never disclosed and their self respect remains intact. We perform Bank to Bank transactions to ensure direct assistance to the needy. All the money generated in the name of Al-Mavineen is spent on the poor and needy and the expenditures of stationary, advertisement and promotion are borne by the members/well wishers of IFD. Our dream is to raise the standards of the economically weaker sections living in the society.
